Thyme's House
Now you get to see where I live! My slave was kind enough to build me my own house. (it's cause she loves me, as she should) As you can see in the picture, I live in a large Rubbermaid container. While that may seem like rather humble accommodations, it gives me all that I need to be a happy hedgie.
I have several things in my house. First and most important for my well being is my wheel. I run in this all night, but never when my slave is looking. (I do this just to frustrate her) This is needed to maintain my trim physique, as well as keep me from getting something called Fatty Liver Disease. This is basically a disease that strikes un-exercised hedgies, and is potentially deadly. So all you slaves out there, buy your hedgies a wheel! Also, we like to "do our business" in wheels while we are running. This is fun because it makes our slaves clean up after us every morning. They think it is because we are running, and if we are in the wild that is what we naturally do when we are running around. I know better though. Don't tell my slave. When you select a wheel for your hedgie, make sure that is doesn't have wire running surface. This is because little hedgie feet can get caught in between gaps in the wires, and get hurt. Hedgie legs are very delicate. Also, we need traction to run on. My slave covered my wheel surface with craft foam. It provides a soft surface, and traction. The best of both worlds.
That funny blue thing in front of my wheel is a hedgie hut. This is a wonderful thing, and is where I sleep. Underneath the plastic floor of my house is a heating pad, that is always turned on to low. This keeps the floor of my house nice and warm, so I have a comfortable place to sleep. The hedgie hut keeps all the heat in, and it also gives me a place to hide from my slave if I am feeling anti-social, which is most time during the day since I am nocturnal. (I like being nocturnal, 'cause it gives me an excuse to be cranky)
The white thing with my name on it is a craft foam tube. I love my tube! I like to put my head in the end of it and run around, and bump into things. I would tell you why I do it, but as my slave is baffled, I can't give the secret away. It is part of the great hedgie conspiracy of silly things we do.
The purple and red ball has a bell in it. I like to push this around with my nose when my slave is trying to sleep. That became less fun though when she moved my house into the living room. It's the thought that counts though, right?
For bedding I have Care-Fresh small animal bedding. This is good for me because it is soft and puts off no fumes like cedar and pine do. Never put your hedgie on one of these, as we have delicate respiratory systems, and the fumes could hurt us. Also, the Care-Fresh is easy for my slave to clean. (she made me put that part in)
In my house is also my food bowl and water bottle. My slave got me a "flat-back" brand water bottle, so she can have it mounted on the outside of my house. I like it because it is easier for her to fill it without disturbing my sleep. :) Gotta have your priorities.
